Street Medics are specially trained activists who provide first aid support for protests and radical actions. Being able to protect eachother from state violence is a critical part of building a strong movement.
The Phoenix Urban Health Collective (a Phoenix-based street medic collective) will be offering a two part training for street medics. No prior medical training is required: The training is a full day for those without a medical background, or a half day for those who already have significant medical training (EMTs, RNs, etc.).
PART A: 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
General first aid principals such as wound care, ABCs of trauma management, hypo/hyperthermia, basic pathophysiology of kinetic injury, medical ethics, and other related topics. Those who already have significant medical training (eg. EMTs, nurses, midwives) should feel free to skip this part and just come to part B.
PART B: 2:30 PM to 7:00 pm
Part B will focus on street-medic specific issues, including pepper-spray/tear gas protocols, scene assessment, Crowd management, and the history of street medicine. Reccomended for people with prior medical training, or for anyone who has just completed part A.
A suggested donation of $15 is requested to help cover the cost of the room, though no one will be turned away for inability to pay. Each segment will begin promptly at the scheduled time, so please arrive on schedule: we have a lot of material to cover!
Please invite your friends and help us spread the word! Repost & re-tweet.
