===========================================
Carnales and Carnalas,

As Columbus day approaches we take up on ourselves to denounce this day as a glorification of Colonialism and the atrocities it committed against our ancestors.

We call on all Chicanos and lovers of justice to join us in our struggle to denounce this so-called celebration and turn it into a day of resistance against attacks on nuestra Raza, our people.

We are tired to see how this bad government, cuts education and social services alleging there is no money, while it incarcerates our people and finances deadly wars abroad; the newest one being on Libya. Instead we have this war at home, were our people are losing their homes and jobs while the banks are plundering our wealth.

We are tired of seeing how in this so-called post racial society, our people who have migrated to this land, are scapegoated for the failures of capitalism. It angers us to be called “illegal aliens” when it was our ancestors who inhabited this lands before Columbus came to conquer and plunder this land. Now in contrast our people are forced to risk their lives crossing a further militarized border.

We are tired, of seeing how this racism against our communities keeps on growing, now Ethnic studies are under attack, and in places like Arizona, the right to know our own history is ilegal.

We are tired to see how after exploiting and repressing our migrant community, politicians manipulate “undocumented” students and the “immigrant” community giving false promises about legalization in order to gain the so-called “latino vote”.

In California, we have seen how Jerry Brown and company claim to have passed the CA-Dream Act, when AB 131, the most significant part of the bill has not been passed, at least since the time his statement was written.

Obama, has set a record for deporting 1 million of our gente. Many of this deportations have been done through the program ironically called “Secure-communities”. But instead of security it has created fear in our barrios and broken apart countless families. Currently the president has recently pulled a move halting 300 thousand deportations. It is our belief that this is just a move to get himself re-elected in 2012. His action is not a law, therefore it remains to see how it will be implemented and how long it will last.

And the program of “secure-communities” which has deported so many of our people and caused fear on our barrios still in place.

But this statement is not to victimize ourselves. What we are doing is a call to action to start a movement in defense of our basic human rights and to pursue the justice to which we are more than entitled.

Instead of playing victims, we ask that you organize with us this coming October 14th, to say ¡YA BASTA!
