The state of Georgia has set an execution date of September 21st for Troy Davis.
This Case, like so many death penalty cases, highlights the racism of the criminal injustice system. Troy was convicted of killing a white police officer without any physical evidence and 7 of the 9 witnesses that were intimidated by the state into giving false statements have since recanted their testimony. Rather than admit the flaws of the system, the state of Georgia now wants to send an innocent man to his death.
What purpose does the death penalty serve in this country? Why does the state of Georgia want to risk executing an innocent man in order to save a system they know is flawed?
Come to a discussion about the important of Troy Davis' case and the pressing questions facing our struggle to stop the death penalty and the "new Jim Crow" system of police and courts.
FEATURED SPEAKERS:
Jack Bryson- civil rights organizer, godfather of Oscar Grant III
Crystal Bybee- Campaign to End the Death Penalty
