Downtown at the clock tower
Troy Davis has been on death row in George since 1991 after being accused of killing a police officer in 1989. The case against him consisted entirely of witness testimony which contained inconsistencies even at the time of the trial. Since then, all but two of the state's non-police witnesses from the trial have recanted or contradicted their testimony, but nevertheless a new execution date for Troy Davis is scheduled for September 21. Rally at the clock tower at 5 this Friday to stop the murder of Troy Davis and to protest against the prison system that discriminates against poor people and people of color.

I've lived in S.F. since the '70's andhave never heard of a "clock tower" as a geographic designation for any place here. There is an obvious clock tower on the Ferry Blding., but I doubt that this is where the rally will be. Can some one be a lot more specific about the place for this event? Thank you, Mercy O'Doul
The Clock Tower is on N Pacific Ave. and Water St., Santa Cruz.
Stop the Execution of Troy Davis!
Troy Davis may be executed in less than a week. He was sentenced to death in 1991 for the killing of an off-duty Savannah policeman. Davis was convicted based on questionable “eyewitness” identifications, dubious accounts that Davis confessed to the killing, and false eyewitness testimony coerced by the cops. Seven of the prosecution’s nine witnesses have since recanted. The only holdouts are one man who may be the actual killer and another who initially denied being able to identify the shooter only to pin it on Davis at trial two years later. Three of the eyewitnesses say their testimony was coerced. New witnesses have come forth identifying another suspect.
For over a decade, state and federal courts refused to hear evidence that Davis was innocent. Now the State of Georgia has issued a death warrant for Troy Davis for September 21.
Amnesty International said of his case, "Troy Davis was convicted of murder in 1991. Nearly two decades later, Davis remains on death row — even though the case against him has fallen apart."
