Sept. 14, 5:30pm Rally!
Help us help Berkeley tenants get their deposits refunded!
When: Wednesday, September 14th, 2011 at 5:30pm
Where: North Berkeley Senior Center, 1901 Hearst Ave.
Dear community members,
On September 14th, Stand Up for Tenants will hold a protest at the Berkeley Landlord Lobby Meeting in response to Berkeley tenants being ripped off for their security deposits.
Multiple Berkeley tenants have recently suffered from landlords who have been withholding security deposit checks from their rightful owners. Alyson Sato, a former Berkeley tenant who sued her landlord after she failed to receive her security deposit, successfully won her security deposit back with damages by judicial decree. Yet her landlord has still failed to send the check for $4,600!
Alyson’s mother, Ruby Sato, had this to say: “My daughter was a good tenant and paid her rent on time every month. There’s no reason why she shouldn’t get her deposit back. This entire situation has caused my family and me a great deal of stress. A lot of time and energy has been spent going to court and fighting the landlord on this issue.”
Chong Hong, another ripped-off Berkeley tenant has spoken up as well: “The behavior of my landlord has burdened me in more ways than I can express. I was a good tenant, and when I left Berkeley, my ex-landlord agreed to return my security deposit. It’s been over a year and I still have not received my deposit back!”
We hope that you will join us and Stand Up for Tenants. Help us help these tenants get their deposits refunded!
