This annual even is hosted and organized by the young people of the Autonomous Watsonville Brown Berets. The event is focused on helping and encouraging healthier habits and attitudes for our local youth. The event will begin with educational workshops and continue through the evening with live music and keynote speakers centered on this year’s theme of, “Healing the Mind, Body and Soul.
There will be workshops from 2-6pm on topics such as, “Social Media and Organizing,” “The Aztec Calendar,” “Methyl Iodide OUT of Our Communities,” “Youth Empowerment in Oakland and the Bay Area,” and “Dealing with homelessness in Watsonville.”
From 6:30 to 9:30 we will have music and performances by Fe Montes of LA, NOVA of Salinas, the MonDays of UCSC, Ciuatl Ce and The Divine Daughters of LA and more hip hop and cultural artists TBA.
We will be painting a community mural focused on education with world famous artist, Mike 360. There will be healthy food for $5.00 a plate. We will also be replanting the garden at Radcliffe Elementary School.
The Watsonville Brown Berets have organized Youth and Power for eight years in order to empower youth and to share tools to make effective and creative changes in their community. This event is a drug-free event, and requires that youth unite solely through their shared vision of a just and healthy future, FREE OF HATRED, MIGRA RAIDS AND PRISONS, in which the histories and cultures of people who have been traditionally oppressed are valued and lived with dignity.
