The Raging Grannies and allied internet freedom supporters will be on the streets yet again to defend freedom of speech. Join us!
A proposed crackdown on social media use following recent uprisings in London has internet freedom supporters fighting mad. The UK's Cameron administration is considering barring "suspected troublemakers" from using social media in order to to prevent a repeat of recent violent uprisings in London.
The Raging Grannies say it is no coincidence that this violence has erupted in some of the UK's poorest areas. A major underlying cause is government spending cuts, in particular deep cutbacks in social programs. As in the US, spending cuts and a lack of jobs programs disproportionately affect the poor. It is a further insult when the Cameron administration is seriously considering curbing their internet freedom.
The Raging Grannies oppose any kind of restrictions on freedoms of speech; especially upon those who are struggling against repression.
The demonstration will be held in the public plaza adjacent to the picturesque British Bankers Club. If you arrive late and don't see us right away, check inside the BBC, where the Grannies may be found enjoying a pint. (Protest may be shorter than an hour).
