California prisoners strike against inhuman conditions

Prisoners in the notorious Pelican Bay “Security Housing Unit” started an unprecedented hunger strike on July 1, and have been joined by thousands of inmates in other prisons across California.

They are demanding an end to the inhuman conditions they are subjected to, including years and decades of solitary confinement and other forms of torture and abuse. Hear a report from Manuel La Fontaine, organizer with Prisoner Hunger Strike Solidarity Coalition and All of Us or None

The Struggle to Stop Police Brutality
As the economic crisis has deepened, there has been a dramatic rise in police brutality in the Bay Area and across the country. At the same, people are fighting back and refusing to be intimidated.

Discussion will follow presentations by activists involved in these struggles.

Los presos en California salieron en huelga protestando las condiciones crueles

Los prisioneros en la notoriamente injusta “Unidad de Seguridad (Security Housing Unit — SHU) comenzaron una huelga de hambre, un acto sin precedente, el 1 de julio, y miles de otros presos en las otras prisiones através de California se unieron con ellos en huelga. Lo hicieron para exigir el fin de las condiciones tan inhumanas a las cuales están sometidos, incluso años y décadas de confinamiento solitario, privación total de un ambiente sano, y otras formas de tortura y abuso. Vengan a escuchar un relato de esta acción histórica y valiente por parte de los presos. Invitado especial: Manuel La Fontaine, organizador con Prisoner Hunger Strike Solidarity Coalition y All of Us or None.

La lucha contra la brutalidad policial
Mientras que se encrudece la crisis económica, ha habido un incremento dramático en la brutalidad y asesinatos por la policía, en el area de la Bahía, y através del país. Al mismo tiempo, el pueblo está protestando este abuso y se dejan de ser intimidados. Es importante aprender de esta lucha, porque la brutalidad policial puede afectar a cualquier de nosotros en la comunidad.
