Beginning at the clock tower in downtown Santa Cruz, at the intersection of N. Pacific Ave. and Water Street.
This is sidewalk march to support thousands of prisoners who have been on hunger strike since July 1st to protest inhumane conditions in the Security Housing Units. The hunger strike has been organized by prisoners in an inspiring show of unity across racial lines.
The hunger strikers have five reasonable demands, which are:
1. End group punishment and administrative abuse.
2. Abolish the debriefing policy, and modify active/inactive gang status criteria.
3. Comply with the U.S. Commission on Safety And Abuse in America's Prisons 2006 Recommendations Regarding an End To Long-Term Solitary Confinement.
4. Provide adequate and nutritious food.
5. Expand and provide constructive programming and privileges for indefinite SHU inmates.
THIS IS A HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE.
Tell your friends and family, and come wearing orange! There will be mass call-ins and discussion.
