AFSC Regional Director for the Middle East (Jerusalem)
Patricia Sellick, the American Friends Service Committee's Regional Director for the Middle East (stationed in Jerusalem) will report on AFSC's exciting work with young people in Occupied Palestine which AFSC hopes to soon expand into Israel.
Effective peace-building requires institutions and relationships that can non-violently address social needs and transform deep-seated tensions and conflicts. Working in partnership with universities and schools, youth organizations, and the Palestinian Ministry of Youth, AFSC's Palestinian Youth Program has worked since 1995 with over 4,000 young people in the West Bank and Gaza offering them the opportunity to use their talents and develop their skills to undertake projects that they themselves have identified to bring positive change in their local communities through civic engagement. AFSC is exploring the expansion of that work into Jerusalem and also partnering with young Jewish Israeli activists and conscientious objectors working in support of Palestinian issues.
Please RSVP to Julia Parish at jparish [at] afsc.org or (415) 565-0201x16
