TRIANGLE
Written & performed by Elaine Ocasio. Developed with and Directed by Rod Menzies.
TRIANGLE commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire by exploring where the responsibility rests to prevent a similar tragedy from happening today. The fire and deaths in 1911 led to the rejuvenation of the trade union movement including mass unionization of garment workers throughout the country and the successful fight for health and safety protective legislation. Laws were finally written protecting health and safety on the job yet today these are under attack nationally. Workers still are dying in locked buildings including 25 trapped chicken plant workers at the Hamlet Imperial Food Product plant in North Carolina in 1991. Just last year, 21 garment workers in a high-rise building in Bangladesh perished because of the exact same conditions one hundred years ago. Elaine Ocasio is an LA based writer/performer. Her solo show “All I Ever Wanted” premiered at the Santa Monica Playhouse in 2009. She is a proud member of IBEW Local 45. http://www.allieverwantedtheplay.com
