Police Presence at Community Protest Against Mehserle's Release
Compared to previous Justice for Oscar Grant demonstrations, the presence of law enforcement was reduced. Absent were the riot gear clad, mutual aid invaders of the past. Still, possibly a few hundred BART, Oakland police officers attended the June 12 protest at Fruitvale BART and in downtown Oakland.
Hundreds of people came out Sunday afternoon to protest the release of former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle from jail. Mehserle murdered Oscar Grant on New Year's Day 2009 and was convicted of second degree manslaughter in July 2010. Mehserle was released from Los Angeles County jail June 13, 2011 shortly after midnight, according to LA journalist Thandisizwe Chimurenga.

Police blocked off streets for the demonstration. Two men were arrested, allegedly for graffiti, but were released. Witnesses said that an police received a tip from an undercover cop within the crowd who identified the men. Some protesters believed one had been targeted due to his involvement in Oakland CopWatch, but he was later released.
Police were also filming the demonstration, as they had in the past, at a number of locations throughout the rally and march.
Per request of IndyBay.org, an organization well aware that both police and mainstream media scan it for news, here are photos of law enforcement at the protest.

any black cops should know, that info is being revealed that will change your beliefs about whos the bad guys.
I read this article on BBC, and couldn't help but think of events in California. As a flyer I saw on the street said, "Let Mehserle Out So He Gets What He Deserves."
A Russian colonel who was jailed for murdering a Chechen teenager has been shot dead in central Moscow. Yuri Budanov was killed on Friday by an unidentified gunman on Komsomolsky Prospekt, a busy avenue in the capital, state prosecutors said. In 2003 a court upheld his 10-year jail sentence for strangling an 18-year-old girl in war-torn Chechnya in 2000.
But he was released early from jail in January 2009 - a move that angered human rights activists. Russian media say the gunman, wearing a blue jacket and hood, attacked Budanov at about 1230 (0830 GMT), shooting him six times with a pistol, then fled by car. The Mitsubishi Lancer getaway car was later found abandoned and on fire, the reports said. A pistol and silencer were found inside.

If the original protests has been this tame Mehserle would of never been convicted. Im sick in tired of people going out and acting like they have such warm hearts and some mythical moral higher peace power acting like they did anything. If these protest had struck fear into the heart of the city like the last several, who knows, they might have extended his stat in jail.......The fact is that a vast majority of people who were out before can see through these "peace police" organizers who work with traitors like Mayor Dellums and are disgusted by the co-option........for the most part keeping the peace isnt worth it until the police stop abusing people
