992 Valencia Street (at 21st)
ATA and Other Cinema co-present:
a screening of recent media-artworks, towards the raising of funds to help our dear sister-artist Dara Greenwald, fighting for her life against cancer.
Ms. Greenwald is the author of a very many video works, especially those around themes of history, activism, and feminism.
She was formerly a principal at Video Data Bank, the largest distributor of video art in the US. In recent years she moved to upstate NY, where she was able, with partner Josh MacPhee, to curate the massive retrospective “Signs of Change”, that last year debuted at NYC’s Exit Art before traveling nationally.
Among the dozen-plus pieces on the 5/20 feature-length program are works by Greta Snider, Jem Cohen, Jim Finn, Paul Chan, Ben Coonley, and Melinda Stone & Igor Vamos.
“The Package”, a 2010 production by Dara herself will also be included, as well as one by Erick Lyle, who will act as emcee for the evening. Ex-SF resident Lyle is the much-lauded author of “On the Lower Frequencies”, on Bay Area sub-cultures, who is returning to town for this extraordinary event.
Refreshments, including alcoholic beverages and snacks, will be available at the gallery’s bar (a portion of which also goes to the ‘Heal Dara’ campaign).
Doors open at 7:30; show-time is 8pm.
Patrons are encouraged to contribute what they can, starting in the $6-10 range
