Women and infant programs are attacked by Winfield's Congressman Randy Hultgren
On April 14, 2011, right-wing Congressman Randy Hultgren (R) from Winfield, IL, voted for H.R. 1473, the devastating legislation that among other things makes major funding cuts to programs for veterans, women, infants, children, the elderly and disabled!
Women and infant programs are attacked by Winfield's Congressman Randy Hultgren
By Lynda Carson -- April 20, 2011
Women, infants and children across the nation are under attack by right-wing Republicans and Tea Party extremists in Congress that are promoting and voting on extreme legislation, that results in grabbing food from the mouths of women, babies and children, while wealthy corporations have not been paying any taxes in recent years.
Congressman Hultgren's Attack On Women, Infants and Children
On April 14, 2011, Winfield's Congressman Randy Hultgren voted for some draconian right-wing budget cutting legislation known as H.R. 1473, that among other things cuts $504 million from the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program.
The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program is a federal subsidized food program administered by the states, serving nutritionally at risk low-income pregnant, postpartum and breast feeding women, including infants till their first birthday, and children up to the child's fifth birthday. WIC serves 45 percent of all infants born in the United States, and offers supplemental nutritious foods, nutrition education and counseling, in addition to screening and referrals to other health, welfare and social services. WIC operates through 1,900 local agencies in 10,000 clinic sites located at county health departments, hospitals, mobile clinics, community centers, schools, public housing sites, migrant health centers and camps, and Indian Health Service facilities. In FY 2009, the WIC budget was $6.8 billion, and the FY 2010 budget was $7.25 billion.
Additionally, $600 million was cut from the budgets of Community Health Centers, all across the nation.
Soaring food prices across the nation make these draconian budget cuts to programs serving women, infants and children even more devastating, at a time when families are least likely able to afford the barest of necessities, just to survive.
Congressman Randy Hultgren (R) resides in Winfield, and was elected to Congress as recent as Jan. 3, 2011, where he advanced his goals to attack women, infants and children from District 14, in the House of Representatives. The top 5 industries contributing to his Campaign Committee are Securities and Investment, Retired, Leadership PACs, Health Professionals, and Lawyers/Law Firms. According to the Federal Elections Commission, there have been 1288 individual campaign contributions made to Congressman Randy Hultgren.
The looting of programs needed by women, infants and children are a direct result of the mean spirited attacks by Tea Party members, the GOP, and extremists from both major political parties, because there is not enough funding coming into the treasury to pay off the national debt.
Since the rich and wealthy corporations are not paying any taxes, or their fair share of taxes anymore, attacks on the working class, poor, and the middle class have risen dramatically by those in power that are protecting the interests of the rich.
The ideals of good in this country were targeted and sold-out by those that voted for H.R. 1473, and all of those who participated in the shredding of the safety net, in the attempt to destroy the government's commitment to assist the middle class, the poor, elderly, disabled, sick and working class of America.
Congressman Hultgren's Attack On Veterans
Additional budget cuts voted for by Congressman Hultgren in H.R. 1473 took $25.1 million out of the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Voucher Program, grabbing over half of the funding from the veteran's much cherished housing program. The veteran's housing program presently has a total funding of only $49.9 million, and according to the National Coalition for the Homeless, 23 percent of the homeless population in America are veterans, and 33 percent of the male homeless population are veterans.
By voting for H.R. 1473 on April 14, Congressman Hultgren voted for nearly $40 billion in budget cuts to programs assisting vulnerable populations across the nation, including veterans, women, infants, children, the middle class, the poor, and elderly, disabled, sick and working class communities of America.
In an April 15, press release statement about the brutal budget cuts he voted for, Congressman Randy Hultgren states, "While this deal is admittedly imperfect, I believe it was the best deal we could have hoped for under the circumstances."
Under the circumstances? Recently Congressman Randy Hultgren and other extremists in the House and Senate were threatening to shut down the government unless they could pass legislation demanding $100 billion in budget cuts to vulnerable populations across the nation, but latter settled for nearly $40 billion in budget cuts made through the legislation known as H.R. 1473.
Among other budget cuts made through H.R. 1473, additionally $125 million was cut from the Section 8 housing program, $149 million from the Public Housing Operation Fund, $456 million from the Public Housing Capital Fund, $426 million from the Section 202 housing program for the elderly, and $115 million from the Section 811 housing program for the disabled.
H.R. 1473, also cuts $390 million from the Low Income Housing and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for the poor, and $942 million from the Community Development Fund, plus $51 million from the Native American Housing Block Grants, $218.2 million from the Home Investment Partnerships program, including $654 million from the Community Development Block Grant program.
Wealthy Corporations Avoid Paying Their Taxes
As Congressman Randy Hultgren and extremists in the House and Senate are demanding that there should be more tax breaks for the rich and wealthy powerful corporations exploiting America, while cutting budgets for the most vulnerable populations across the nation, records show that Exxon Mobil's profits totaled $19 billion in 2009, but records also reveal that Exxon/Mobil did not pay any taxes in 2009. To the contrary, Exxon/Mobli received a $156 million rebate, paid for by the American tax payers.
Senator Bernie Sanders made national headlines recently by putting together a list of some of the worst corporate income tax avoiders of America, that also received rebates, at tax payers expense. Click on link for details. http://tinyurl.com/66fckan
Additionally on April 15, Congressman Roskam also voted for the GOP's extremist budget proposal called "The Path To Prosperity," also known as "The Path To Homelessness" by liberals, which is little more than a massive attack on the poor and working class, and amounts to a huge tax give-a-way to the big corporations and the wealthy, by extending the Bush-era tax breaks into perpetuity. Activists across the nation are urging the public to contact their representatives to say no to the GOPs so-called Path to Prosperity.
