The Tribes of Burning Man
Steven T. Jones will be appearing at Revolution Books to discuss his book: The Tribes of Burning Man, a special and intimate view of the most popular, unique, and enduring countercultural event of recent times. Each year, for a week at the end of summer, artists and alternative lifestyle enthusiasts build and populate a temporary city in the Nevada desert, built around a giant effigy of “The Man”. Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world have made the dusty pilgrimage to Black Rock City to take part in this experiment in participatory art, gift culture, and bacchanalian celebration—and many say their lives were fundamentally changed by the experience. Through Steven, we are introduced to the people, and their vision, that have shaped this event.
