There will be solidarity benefit meeting for Japanese workers and farmers who have been displaced or are
unemployed as a result of the massive earthquake and radioactive leak. Twenty three postal workers are still missing in Sendai, Japan and the government and electric utility TEPCO continue to cover up the dangers and also fail to protect the health and safety of the workers and the communities. Temporary workers have also been brought in
to the nuclear plants and were contaminated even before the present disaster.
There will be a screening of the video of the Japanese Motoyama Struggle, The Record of 34 Years of Fierce Struggle For Labor Rights.
These workers were based in Sendai Japan and were forced into a 34 year strike which they won and went back to work. This is the longest
strike of workers in the world.

It's OK to raise money to help left and workers' organizations in Japan. But such fundraising can provide at best a drop in the ocean of what the Japanese workers and small bourgeoisie (like farmers) need. It would be most effective for those in Japan and their supporters here to use their and our resources to campaign to demand that the Japanese government provide the hundreds of billions of dollars of aid that is necessary -- something that it could finance by cashing in a few hundred billions of the over 800 billion dollars it holds in U.S. treasury notes.
In other words, use our minuscule resources to demand that the Japanese government stop financing the destruction of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya and instead finance the reconstruction of housing and other life-sustaining infrastructure in Japan.
