Action Alert – Glen Cove/Sogorea Te under imminent threat!
Despite the continuous efforts in good faith of Sacred Sites Protection and Rights of Indigenous Tribes (SSP&RIT) to negotiate an agreement to protect and preserve Sogorea Te from desecration, the Greater Vallejo Recreation District is still refusing to abandon their efforts to develop this sacred Native American burial site in Vallejo, CA. It appears that the desecration of the site may now be imminent.
We are calling for an assembly of all Warriors to gather at 5:00pm on Thursday April 14, 2011 at Glen Cove, followed by a meeting at 7:00pm. This will be in preparation for a ceremony to honor the ancestors buried at the site, which will take place at 8:00am the following morning, Friday, April 15, 2011. Directions are available at http://protectglencove.org/about/directions-to-glen-cove/
Be prepared to protest the assault on Glen Cove/Sogorea Te that could begin as early as the morning of April 15. Please bring photo/video cameras to document any possible desecration, as well as any other supplies that may be helpful in setting-up camp. This is a non-violent and peaceful protest, with NO weapons, drugs, or alcohol.
Please visit the website http://www.protectglencove.org for more information on the history of Glen Cove/Sogorea Te. All frontline supporters who have not registered are urged to send their e-mail and cell phone # to: secretary.ssp_rit [at] yahoo.com for updates.
We are also now requesting donations for the Emergency Defense Fund. Funds are needed to purchase supplies, food, photocopies, signs, etc. Please support our work in this time of urgent need!
If you can’t make the trip, please make a phone call or write a letter to express your outrage at the planned development.
