We Are One Rally: UC Berkeley 4-4-11
Nationwide solidarity rally honoring MLK, Jr, was held at Bancroft & Telegraph in Berkeley, followed by a march up to Piedmont where a protest for worker's rights was held at The International House.
Description by Communications Workers of America Local 3299:
UC Berkeley workers, faculty, and students will rally to stand up for the rights of all workers and students. Picket at Telegraph and Bancroft.
Students, workers and all members of the community are invited to join us as we fight to stop the cuts to our schools locally and change the direction our politicians are taking us nationally.
***
Description below for SF rally by Local National Writers Union, San Francisco Bay Area Chapter/UAW Local 1981:
On April 4, people from around the country will gather in support of the National Day of Action, to show solidarity for the rights of working people in the face of the latest corporate onslaught against unions, labor and progressive causes.
Today, as the world can see in Wisconsin and Ohio, our rights as works to collective bargaining and union organization are under attack as never before.
April 4 is the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's assassination. Dr. King was killed in Memphis, where he was supporting the efforts of the most invisible workers to organize a union and win their rights. As you know he was also a giant in the fight to win civil rights.
It is a fitting tribute to him that we meet and show our solidarity together, and demonstrate in favor of our labor rights along with people nationwide.
