STOP the Desecration of the Sogorea Te shellmound in Glen Cove!

by Native Solidarity
The desecration of the Glen Cove sacred site is scheduled to begin in the next few days.
We are organizing now for direct action to stop the desecration. Do not let this happen!
Action Alert – Glen Cove under imminent threat
Posted on: April 5, 2011
http://protectglencove.org/

Despite continuous efforts in good faith of Sacred Sites Protection and Rights of Indigenous Tribes (SSP&RIT) to negotiate an agreement to protect and preserve Sogorea Te from the desecration of development, the City of Vallejo and the Greater Vallejo Recreation District are still refusing to abandon their efforts to desecrate a Sacred Native American Burial Site. Those negotiations have reached an impasse and it appears that

THE DESECRATION OF SOGOREA TE (GLEN COVE) MAY BE IMMINENT.

All supporters: please sign up for our text message distribution system (in the right column of this webpage) and subscribe to our action alert email list.

All will be needed to make a presence at Sogorea Te
and provide the strength of unity and prayer.

WARRIORS! BE PREPARED TO RESPOND WITH SHORT NOTICE

SSP&RIT requests that all who are willing to face this assault email the secretary:
secretary.ssp_rit [at] yahoo.com (Please include your phone number for emergency contact.)

AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN IS BEING FORMED.
SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS WILL BE PROVIDED TO SUPPORTERS.

I will stand with pride because I am here for the Ancestors.
I will stand with courage because I am here for the Ancestors.
I will stand with strength because I am here for the Ancestors.
I will stand with compassion because I am here for the Ancestors.
I will stand with respect because I am here for the Ancestors.

From secretary.ssp_rit@yahoo.com

ALL WARRIORS FOR THE ANCESTORS: The Protect Glen Cove Committee and the Board of Directors of Sacred Sites Protection and Rights of Indigenous Tribes (SSP&RIT) have received information that leads us to believe that the desecration of Glen Cove will begin on April 15, 2011.

ALL WARRIORS WHO WILL ANSWER THIS CALL: SSP&RIT is calling for an ASSEMBLY of all Warriors to gather on April 14, 2011 in front of SSP&RIT headquarters at 400 Keats Drive, Vallejo, California.

Be prepared to actively protest this assault at Glen Cove. You will be camping out at the Sogorea Te site; bring blankets, sleeping bags, tents, food; mess kit, clothing to protect you from chemical attacks (just in case). Any other items you may need or think will be useful. Cameras and video cameras are a must, if you have them. Walkie-talkies are needed for communications. Bring you cell phone chargers.

ALL WARRIORS WHO WILL ANSWER THIS CALL: This is a NON-VIOLENT and PEACEFUL protest. NO WEAPONS, NO ALCOHOL & NO DRUGS.

Bring your sacred medicine and join our prayer circle at Glen Cove. If you can't make the trip, make a phone call and keep the phone lines of GVRD and the City of Vallejo busy.

This is a call-out to all traditional people, anti-authoritarians, anarchists, indigenous solidarity activists, environmentalists, etc...

The construction is finally set to being soon, within the next two weeks. After years of dispute and bureaucratic bullshit, GVRD and the City of Vallejo is finally going to disturb, degrade, and destroy not only this ecosystem (yes indeed, the ecosystem will probably regenerate eventually) but the sacred shellmound on which this land literally is.

The small group of supporters in Vallejo need ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET.
by Native Solidarity
GVRD and contractors were meeting at Sogorea Te today (APR 7). They refused to listen to our concerns, refused to identify themselves or their employers and tried to harass and intimidate SSP&RIT members and their supporters. The police were called by Steve Pesley of GVRD, but no arrests or interference resulted. Representatives of the TimesHerald were on hand and interviewed Wounded Knee.

The contractors intend to fence the ancestors in to protect their equipment. The also intend to employ roving security at the site. We expect that this fence will go up on the 13th or 14th of April.

The contractor is Carone & Company, Inc. Address is 5009 Forni Drive, Concord, Ca. 94520 (925) 602-8800 Make a call and voice your objections to them.

In a unbelievable move the committee which is set to have a Burial site desecrated by GVRD and the city of Vallejo has denied the Tree People the right to defend the site of personality issues (The Ancestors are really crying now). This group headed by Corrina Gould (Olhone) refused to even give the Tree People credit after spending 642 days in the Trees in UC Berkjeley which was credited of helping stop the British Petroleum deal which geared to cut down the Amazon Rainforest for Green Energy. Zachary RunningWolf an elder and long time warrior is appalled at this ridiculous behavior as witness to Miss Gould's volunteering to witness the desecretion to her ancestors during a GRVD meeting. Let the warriors do what they are supposed to do. Have you ever saved a sight with direct action. Miss Gould
Just because Gould say "no" to the actions of the Tree People does not mean these action should not be taken. One person should not, and DOES not have a monopoly on the response of this action. If I recall, the call out was to remain "peaceful" which means no violence against living beings; tree sitting is is a nonviolent peaceful form of resistance that actually works!
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
