Labor Day of Action in Redwood City, Ca April 4, 2011
Union members,workers and their supporters gathered, Monday April 4, 2011 at the old courthouse in Redwood City in solidarity with workers accross the nation, whose rights are being threatened by corporations and right-wing politicians. This event was part of a national day of action.
April 4, is the 43rd anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther king jr. in Memphis Tn. Dr. king was in Memphis to support sanitation workers who were seeking the right of collective bargining. Today state governments are using the recession as an excuse to strip union members of their collective bargining rights. This action was a protest against these assults on working people of America. Many labor unions were represented at this event: Such as, AFSCME - American Federation of State county and Municipal Employees The International Brotherhood of Teamsters,local 85, NALC - National Association of Letter Carriers, as well as many others. This event was sponsered by the San Mateo Central Labor council, AFL-CIO.
