We Are One - East Bay Labor Unites in Oakland's Frank Ogawa Plaza, 4/4/11: photos
On April 4th — the day Martin Luther King Jr was murdered 43 years ago in Memphis, Tennessee, where he went to stand with sanitation workers demanding the right to collectively bargain — over 1000 solidarity actions were held across the U.S. to stand with the workers of Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, and other states where union rights have recently come under direct attack by governors and legislators. At Frank Ogawa Plaza in front of Oakland's City Hall, perhaps a thousand union members or more and their supporters gathered in solidarity and to protest the increasing attacks on labor across the U.S. The workers' rally was sponsored by the Alameda Labor Council, AFL-CIO and included dozens of unions from across the East Bay.
