HUFF will encourage HSC to assist Sign-Up's at Project Connect Tomorrow...
HUFF will be tabling at the Project Connect 10 AM to 4 PM event at the Civic Auditorium tomorrow March 22 (though not necessarily for the whole period) to help homeless folks sign up on the Waiting Lists to avoid the Camping Tickets. If you miss us there, contact us by phone, e-mail (rnorse3 [at] hotmail.com) or come to a meeting. The attached flier describes the supposed "Waiting List" procedure.
Legislation that mandates dismissal of Camping Tickets if you're on a HSC waiting list went into effect in late October. (See (see "Camping Ordinance Revisions Pass at City Council at http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2010/09/16/18658837.php).
The amendments, proposed by City Attorney Barisone, were likely prompted by Peace Camp 2010's 3-month vigil-and-protest outside the County Building and City Hall.
However few citations have been dismissed and several homeless people have reported difficult signing up for the Waiting Lists.
To follow PC2010's history and check in on some of its current court struggles, go to http://www.peacecamp2010.blogspot.com/ .
In addition, city politicians and shelter povertycrats won't provide important information (See " Vice-Mayor Lane Joins HSC Executive Director in Stonewalling on Homeless Shelter Questions" at http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2010/12/22/18667405.php).
Please post your experiences--positive and negative here, and/or get in touch with HUFF at 423-4833 or at the weekly 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM meetings at 703 Pacific, Sub Rosa Cafe.
