Can We Get a Midnight Matt Update?

by Craig Louis Stehr (craigstehr [at] hushmail.com)
What happened at Midnight Matt's court appearance, and when is the next opportunity to offer him support in his ridiculous legal situation?
Due to cooking/serving on Wednesdays with Berkeley Catholic Worker, I was not able to be at Midnight Matt's court appearance. The ever-zealous Zachary Running Wolf informed me that Matt was additionally charged with having a police officer's helmet up on his protester's tree platform. Can the public please receive a report as to what happened at Matt Dodt's last court appearance, and a general update of his continuing ridiculous legal situation? What's up? Tuk Pikuni!

Apparently, Matt's next court date is April 4th. I wasn't able to post his last court date due to lack of details. I will post the next hearing as soon as I can. I feel bad that circumstances had diverted my ability to uptain the information needed for posting the previous court date.

As for the current situation, nothing really happened at Matt's last court hearing. The judge put it off again, and many people get the impression that an eventual trial isn't going to happen, because they can hold Matt for a total of 60 days before doing anything. But, I don't know.

Shifting gears somewhat, let me point out an important discrepancy that's been delivered by some mainstream media, such as the SF Chronicle, that Drayco-- the guy who was stabbed in the hand and was the reason Matt was arrested, and has now been in jail for well over a month--disappeared and no one knows what happened to him. Drayco can actually be seen just about everyday in People's park, regularly threatening to kill or attack someone. I would also add this detail, from which the reader can draw their own conclusions: Drayco, a supposedly poor homeless guy, now has a laptop computer, and on Thursday was in the park waving around a screen phone.

I think that's when his trial begins, if DA follows through
To whomever is taking the responsibility on Midnight Matt's jail support team, please post the information regarding his next court appearance on the SF Indybay activist calendar.

I still have not been able to contact anyone with this information, so I am unable to post it as an event right now. Hopefully, I will know for sure by tonight. People, who were at the previous court hearing that I've talked to , claim that it's probably on Wed. at 9 am in room 115 at the Wiley Manuel court house in Oakland.

As for updates, Matt remains in jail and his last court hearing was postponed by the judge until next time. It's probable that they will continue to put it off up until the 60 days are up that they can hold him.

Again, that probable court date is Wed. Apr. 4; I don't mean this upcoming Wednesday.

Today, Tues. March 22, Austin White aka Drayco, the guy who was stabbed in the hand, for which Matt has been in jail ever since, was in People's park again, swaggering around like a cop. In a previous comment here, I pointed out that he now has a lap top and a really nice screen phone. It could be that Drayco and his friends were going after Matt, the night he was arrested last month, as a way to kiss the cop's ass; to show their alliance and hopefully garner respectability. But I've become increasingly more suspicious of there perhaps being an even closer link between Drayco and the cops. One could say, of course, that either way he was working with the cops, which I agree with. But what I am starting to ask now is Drayco, perhaps a cop himself? The answer is uncertain, of course, but he sure acts like one.
