Women have a long association with war going back to ancient times. Their multiple roles in this highly genderized institution have been neglected, obscured or marginalized. This presentation will offer a brief historical survey of women in war and the military, including roles they have played and myths that perpetuate their subordinate status in these activities. Also covered are women in revolutionary wars and militaries including World War II Soviet military, Cuba and Nepal.
