The 1998 Pulitzer Prize Finalist and author of "Mad in America" and "Anatomy of an Epidemic" discusses the rise in diagnosis of mental illness in the U.S. and the proliferation of drugs to medicate various conditions.
He examines how psychiatric drugs effect long-term care outcomes and the studies coming out of Finland on "first break" episodes and treatment.
David Lo, MD, former Chief of Psychiatry for Santa Cruz County Mental Health &Substance Abuse, currently staff Psychiatrist at San Jose State University providing clinical care for students will be joining Robert Whitaker to provide a clinical perspective based on experience with "first breaks" and his experience with providing services to our population.
They will be examining perspectives on current treatment of "first break" episodes, research and history of psychiatric medications and discussing their perspectives.
