Focus the Nation and DVC Students to Launch a Green Initiative on Campus
DVC student leaders understand that it will be up to their generation to provide the solutions to current and future environmental issues that relate to the conservation of the nation and world. Therefore on February 25th, from 11am-5pm, DVC students, with the help of the non-profit organization Focus the Nation, will hold a Green Energy Forum on campus in the Performing Arts Center with an expected audience of over 350 attendees. The forum is to focus on creating cleaner energy sources, localizing food production, environmental sustainability and how a student’s future career can contribute to a healthier planet. Participants will be able to choose their roles either as technicians, storytellers, politicos, or innovators during the event. The event will feature industry expert speakers, festivities, performances, and entertainment. PG&E representatives are also expected to be present to speak on how to conserve energy.
U.S. Senator Mark DeSaulnier, Mayor Gayle McLaughlin of Richmond and a representative from U.S. Congressman John Garsmendi’s office are expected to be present for the Panel Discussion. There are also current discussions with U.S. Congressmen George Miller’s staff on his potential attendance as well.
This event is sponsored by Clif Bar, United States Green Building Council of Northern California, local businesses: Los Rancheros Supermarket, Mi Oficina Café and DVC student organizations: the Architecture Construction and Engineering Club (ACE) and Iconic Design Club.
About Focus the Nation
Focus the Nation is a small staff and board based in Portland, Oregon with an advisory board network of thought leaders across the country. The heart of who we are though is our ever-growing team of young volunteers in every state—Millenials who fully understand the opportunities at stake in building a clean energy world. Focus the Nation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit founded in 1999.
Call to Action
The corporations and politicians who have mainly caused the problems are not solely going to provide sensible solutions to our environmental and economic crisis. It is up to the educated youth of this country to Focus the Nation to do so. The world is running out of oil, consumerism is polluting our world with garbage, and western lifestyle is unsustainable. What is your career going to do about it?
