Solidarity with the working class in Wisconsin is certainly important but why not have an actual protest in Sacramento? Democrat Jerry Brown may not be trying to take away collective bargaining rights (yet) but he'll still impose an austerity budget that causes mass layoffs, suffering for people who rely on public services, and a real weakening of unions.

People in Wisconsin may retain their collective bargaining rights, but the unions have already signaled they will bargain away their benefits. There are no demands for increasing wages and benefits and raising revenues through taxing the rich and corporations.

A call for a General Strike would be far more effective than a meek little candlelight vigil. What would the California labor leaders do if some of their rank and file choose to occupy the statehouse?

A rally in Solidarity with the Wisconsin workers has also been called by Jobs with Justice, for Today (Tuesday) at 5:30 pm in downtown Oakland, at the State Building, at 15th and Clay (near 12th St. BART)! So, if you can't get to Sacramento today, then at least show up in Oakland!
