A contemporary dance performance about the lack of literacy, Saturday February 26th 2011 at 2pm and 4pm at the Main Branch of the Oakland Public Library. FREE.

Christine Germain’s work has been described as a “very fine performance” by Lisa Rinehart (“Danceviewtimes,” New York City, September 2009). Germain strives to bring attention to human rights and injustice through dance and physical theater. This time she addresses the importance of literacy and is offering the production for free to make the dance accessible to everyone.

The movement vocabulary for this piece will be informed by true stories from interviews of people who have various degrees of literacy. It is important to us to present this work as a site-specific piece in a Public Library, the exact place where people may be inspired by books and magazines, rather than in a conventional theater.
