Grand Opening of Global Justice Ecology Project's New West Coast Office with film and presentation:
Climate Justice vs. False Solutions to Climate Change: Forests and Indigenous Peoples' Rights vs. Bioenergy, Carbon Offsets, and Genetically Engineered Trees
(dedicated to John Ross and Bishop Samuel Ruiz)
Join us for our West Coast Office Party and info night featuring an update on Global Justice Ecology Project's climate justice and forest protection work, including an update on the controversial California-Chiapas-Biofuels/REDD deal.
In honor of the late John Ross and Bishop Samuel Ruiz, we will also be showing "Lacandona: The Zapatistas and Rainforest of Chiapas, Mexico," a short film produced by GJEP's co-directors in 1996 that explains the struggle of the Indigenous Zapatistas to protect the Lacandon jungle.
Enjoy wine and hors d'oeuvres with GJEP co-Directors Anne Petermann & Orin Langelle, our new Communications Director Jeff Conant, and two of our Board members: Hiroshi Kanno and Karen Pickett
5-6 pm mingling with wine and hors d'oeuvres
6-7 pm short presentation and film
7-9 pm more mingling and discussion
