Tonight, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is hosting a dinner to celebrate its 100th anniversary and to raise corporate money for the recently created CPUC Foundation, soliciting funds from the same corporations the CPUC is charged with regulating.

Corporations buying $20,000 tables include Pacific Gas & Electric, Southern Ca Edison and San Diego Gas &Electric.

Steve Larson, former CPUC Executive Director, is organizing the
event. Larson currently works with California Strategies, a lobbying firm where he specializes in energy and utility policy. Gov. Jerry Brown is expected to speak at the dinner.

When: Thursday January 27, 2011. Doors open at 6 PM, dinner at 7:20 PM.

Residents and grass-roots organizations critical of the CPUC's
industry-friendly policies and lack of effective regulatory oversight with regard to gas pipeline safety, wireless facilities in public rights-of-way, and Smart Meters will peacefully demonstrate outside the dinner. If We the People don't challenge the foxxes guarding the henhouses, who will?
