BERKELEY, CA - February 1, 2011 -- The Sausan Ensemble Egyptian Dance Company will perform a two-hour program filled with traditional and modern Egyptian music and dance at the International House in U.C. Berkeley, CA.
ACT ONE, A Tribute to Egyptian Musicians, will celebrate the music of three of Egypt's most well-known musicians, Mohamed Abd El Wahab, Fareed Al Atrasch, and Abd El Halim Hafez with performances by Sausan Ensemble soloists. In addition, four modern pieces will be performed in groups by Sausan's graduate dancers who make up the Ensemble.
ACT TWO, Al Afra Al Saeed or Weddings of the South, tells the story of a young betrothed couple, life in their village and their ultimate marriage through traditional Egyptian dance. An East Bay premiere, this was performed at the de Young Museum last spring.
This first-ever event, choreographed and produced by Sausan of the Sausan Academy of Egyptian Dance (http://www.sausanacademy.com), will take place at the International House at U. C. Berkeley on Tuesday, February 1, at 7:30 PM and includes Sausan's graduate amateur and professional belly dancers, three of whom perform regularly in her restaurant, Al-Masri in San Francisco (http://www.almasrisfca.com). In addition, visitors can shop the international bazaar full of unique gifts and refreshments during pre and post show as well as the intermission.
