Pro-choice Parade
Pro-choice activists rallied and marched today to mark the 38th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade, that established a woman’s right to an abortion. They were countering the Walk for Life religious invasion of the city of San Francisco.
Following successes in November’s midterm elections, conservative legislators in dozens of states are mounting aggressive campaigns to limit abortions. As the nation's political climate grows more conservative, pro-choice activists say they will stand for none of it. They shouted "abortion on demand and without apology" as they countered the annual invasion of San Francisco by right wing religious groups on the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that established a woman’s right to an abortion.
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the Raging Grannies, Bay Area Coalition for our Reproductive Rights (BACORR), Radical Women, World Can't Wait, and other groups participated in the pro-choice activities of the day. Cindy Sheehan, amongst others, addressed the crowd of about 100 people at a rally and many more joined the march for choice.

They were LOUD across the way, and yet the pro-choice group was denied a permit to use amplification! A little civil disobedience was in order in this case ;) and the grannies had a small amp with them, they let the speakers use it too. Missed you at the rally, Mei, I was late. It did seem like a lot more than 100 when we marched!
The Anti-Abortion fascists again had many buses parked at Marina Middle School, a public school. Someone needs to go after the school board to demand that never happen again. By the way, Roe v Wade guarantees a woman to a safe and legal abortion. The garbage Chronicle treated the Catholic Chuch's annual mobilization of 10,000 Catholic school children and some barely literate adults as a grassroots demonstration instead of the annual staged anti-women and anti-science hate event it is, permitted by the San Francisco Democratic Party that runs the local capitalist government.
I hope my college-age daughter never needs an abortion but, if she does, I want it to be safe and legal. It is her body and her choice, not mine, and certainly not some rich Republican's! It is sad that we still need to take to the streets to defend the fundamental right to choose in this day and age.
