Anarchists Against the Wall is an Israeli direct action group established in 2003 to resist the Annexation Wall being built by Israel on Palestinian land in the Occupied West Bank. They support Palestinian civilian resistance to massive confiscation of land and denial of freedom of movement caused by construction of the Wall.ᅠᅠ AATW activists have joined thousands of demonstrations against the Wall and against the Occupation in dozens of villages throughout the West Bank.ᅠ AATW cooperates with local popular committees established in Palestinian villages involved in the unarmed resistance movement. These autonomous and non-partisan committees initiate and coordinate the demonstrations which take place weekly in some villages. In addition, the group works with Israeli and international organizations, such as the International Solidarity Movement, the Coalition of Women for Peace, Gush Shalom and others.
Standing side by side with Palestinians, the group has experienced what Israeli repression is like in the Occupied Palestinian territories. Clearly, Palestinians suffer most from repression, including 19 killed at demonstrations against the Wall, but members of the AATW have also suffered many injuries, some of them severe.ᅠᅠ In addition, over a hundred indictments have been filed against AATW members and they have been demonized by their government. Despite the physical danger and the emotional stress involved, AATW activists continue to place themselves on the line in support of the struggle for Palestinian liberation.
This event will feature a presentation from activists from AATW, followed by a Q+A.
