Nir Rosen, Power and KPFA's Morning Show

by Listener
Nir Rosen was a guest on this morning's Democracy Now! speaking on "Aftermath: Following the Bloodshed of America’s Wars in the Muslim World"

Nir Rosen's final remark struck a chord with me in relation to the drama surrounding the Morning Show on KPFA.

"But I also remain frustrated with the American media, at least the establishment, with few exceptions. You have some very brave and independent journalists. But too often, they seem to return to sort of being the handmaids of power, instead of challenging power, instead of having this adversarial relationship with people in power, realizing that people in power lie. And I think that’s been the fundamental principle guiding my work, is anybody in power is going to lie to maintain their power. It should be obvious, whether they’re a leader of a militia in Baghdad, whether they’re the leader of the free world. And our job is to undermine that power and undermine those lies."

As weak as the Morning Show has always been vis-a-vis people in power and the fact that those people lie, the News Department has been far worse. Mark Mericle is awful and Aileen Alfandary is abysmally bad. To make maters worse, they even managed to colonize KPFK in LA with their horrible news coverage.

There's one case, though, where Edwards-Tiekert, Mericle, Alfandary, Jeserich, et al., are willing to challenge people in power. It's when those people are elected officers of Pacifica or KPFA who are trying to exert any control over them. That's when their vaunted 'objectivity' goes out the window.

THE NEWS DEPARTMENT IS ALSO IN NEED OF REPAIR-ALFANDARY HAS FOR YEARS CHASED OUT FEMALE TALENT AND IS INCAPABLE OF WORKING ANY FEMALE REPORTER-TOO INSECURE, CONTROLLING POWER MAD AND NEUROTIC. MARK MERICLE ---HE IS HER MENTAL EQUIVALENT-INSECURE AND EASILY THREATENED HE IS VINDICTIVE AND RETALIATATORY.

HIS REGUALR CO ANCHOR AND MALE FRIEND HAS NO QUALIFICATIONS WHATSOEVER. NOR DOES HE NEED ANY. AS INDICATED BY HIS INABILITY TO READ A COHERENT SENTENCE-IT IS ALL ABOUT WHAT MERICLE WANTS, HE GETS. MERICLE IS A CORRUPTING INFLUENCE. BET LEARNED ALL TOO WELL FROM THESE TWO HOW TO ACT LIKE AN ASS. BUT THEN BET IS AN APT PUPIL.

MERICLE HIRES WHOMEVER MERICLE CHOOSES-AND HE CHOOSES...WHAT CHOOSES HIM...
