Today, radio hosts Mya Shone and Ralph Schoenman abruptly announced on their broadcast of Taking Aim that, after nine years, it would be their final broadcast.

Citing plans at the Pacifica affiliate WBAI which were made without consulting them or WBAI's listeners, along "with other actions by the current WBAI and Pacifica management," Shone and Schoenman told their audience that they had decided to end their program.

Taking Aim was a rarity in America's broadcast media landscape: weekly, it openly criticized and challenged the capitalist system. Indeed, Schoenman mentioned the decision to call it quits at WBAI was due in part to the realization that WBAI's "methods are those of any corporate-capitalist management."

The full program should be available temporarily at WBAI's archives:

It's not really the end, just their last program on WBAI, since the corporate pigs there bounced them into a late night time-slot without even consulting with them. Ralph & Mya did say say that they would continue, somehow, but not at WBAI. Does anyone have any news of this? Will they be doing podcasts to upload into their archives, or look for another radio host? They mentioned wanting to hear from their listeners but the e-mail for that is @WBAI. I'm thinking I will have to mail a letter to Veritas Press. This is a terrible loss if they quit, for there is nothing that even comes close to their quality of information and analysis. I really hope they find a way to continue.
