2 Years! Bullshit! Photos from the March and Rally Against the Mehserle Sentencing

by Felix Barrett (felix60 [at] hotmail.com)
These are photos taken from the rally and march on November 5. As many speakers said, quoting John Burris, attorney for the family of Oscar Grant, Michael Vick got 4 years for shooting a dog. Johannes Mehserle got 2 years for shooting Oscar. To this rotten system the life of a young Black man is worth less than a dog!

More than 400 people rallied at the civic center in Oakland. The speeches, especially those from the community were very angry. Hundreds blocked the streets in the face of a massive police presence.

Thanks.
yes, a few days ago, Michael Moore said on Democracy Now that Wikileaks was naive and unsophisticated in doing their huge press conference about the major document release of 400,000 military files about the Iraq war on a Friday afternoon. This is a famous dead time for the news because nobody watches TV on friday evening, and it is old by Sunday or Monday. Unfortunately, this event had similar timing. Also, the people in jail right now aren't able to come out and write and publish their own material. I just spent a few minutes looking for news of charges or whether anyone was released, and I can't find anything.

but according to past practices, the people arrested will probably be kept in til Monday.

They started releasing us at 8AM, I got out around 11. Most are being charged with unlawful assembly. The National Lawyers Guild has been there for those arrested the whole time and will be fighting for them.

Here are some pieces on youtube from the event that are turning up.

This person had a pretty high quality camera, good angles. Shows them getting kettled in one block:

They're all people holding up your pathetic little signs (which you probably handed them right before taking their picture), or lying face down on the ground. Now, I'm not knocking people who chose to make a point by doing the latter, but what does it say that you chose those photos over any others? I'm thinking that you like seeing young people looking helpless, so you can try to "save" them with your vanguard party. Fuck Bob Avakian and his cult, the Revolutionary Communist Party.

respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Hmm... I guess this no longer applies?

Maybe it's time to review our stance on the SECOND ammendment... and start using it.

Seriously? BAM!? Thats your comment? A fucking plug for your group? YOu went around and started hyping this rally and then the same folks who told me to march I saw walking away as soon as cops showed up! learn to stand in solidarity without trying to turn it into an ad for your group. the RCP does that enough already.
