First Sunday Potluck / Talk with Sharat G. Lin
Sharat Lin will talk on "India, Pakistan, Afghanistan: Geopolitics of development and conflict" at the Peace Resource Center, as part of the First Sunday Speaker Series.
Potluck at 1:00 pm, followed by speaker.
As war in Afghanistan rages for the tenth successive year, Pakistan plays contradictory roles, India's economy surges ahead while poverty and farmer suicides continue unabated. Meanwhile, Muslim and Hindu chauvinism threaten social and political stability, and floods displace or injure over 20 million people. With nearly a quarter of the world's population, will South Asia become the next engine of economic growth or the flashpoint for nuclear war?
Dr. Lin is president of the San Jose Peace and Justice Center. He writes on the Middle East, South Asia, global political economy, and labor migration, and is a contributing author in the recently-published book Studies in Inequality and Social Justice (edited by Kira Hall).
For information, call 899-7322 or 372-5762.
