The Berkeley free Clinic has been in operation since 1969, when it was founded as a street medicine clinic. It continues to be one of the only area clinics to offer rapid anonymous HIV testing services, as well as a host of other services, completely free of charge. The clinic is almost entirely volunteer run, with an estimated yearly 31,000 volunteer hours.
Despite its significance and importance in the community, the Berkeley Free Clinic recently lost all of its municipal funding. Now, more than ever, it faces a need for donations to continue offering critical services.
Queer and ally communities are coming together on November 6 at 1:30 to host and attend Queer Carnival 2010, where 100% of revenue will go to keep the Berkeley Free Clinic running. It will feature a barbecue, bake sale, reused boutique, arts and crafts, live music and performances, a hot tub, games, prizes, pie throwing, open mic, face painting, a pinata, a favor auction, dance party, and more. Each activity will be run by a different queer or ally organization, so this is also an opportunity to pick up resources and meet people who share your interests! Live music by Annah Anti-Palindrome, Koralie "Sugar" Hill, Mad Noise, and two DJs
Suggested donations for each product/activity will vary (albeit on the cheap side), and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
