Thursday, Oct 21, free reception 6:30-7pm, film 7-8pm, discussion 8-9pm
From Utah to North Carolina, and Wyoming to New York, all families' stories are connected by a common thread - a gay child. Director Susan Polis Schutz is also the parent of a gay son. Whether Japanese, Cherokee, Mormon, Catholic or Hindu, the families in the film share a deep love for their children along with a struggle for acceptance. While some showed unconditional support, other struggled with their child's sexual orientation, either fearing alienation from their extended family, their church or their community. Some simply did not understand the universal nature of homosexuality and that it can affect anyone and everyone.
Other documentaries have told stories of gay men and lesbians on their personal journeys. This documentary tells us about the coming out journey of the parents of gay and lesbian children.
Free reception 6:30 - 7:00 pm
After the film a facilitated community discussion will be held from 8-9:00 pm.
