Southwest Fresno will get a new Middle School

by Mike Rhodes (editor [at] fresnoalliance.com)
Southwest Fresno middle school students have been bused to north Fresno schools since 1979. This has been a huge burden on this community and almost everyone is happy that the Fresno Unified School District plans to build a new school. The only problem is that the location selected will require residents, a church, and store to be re-located. Robert Mitchell, who I interviewed (the audio is below) asked why they didn’t select the vacant lot across the street, which would have preserved the existing community. (18:51 minute audio)

Carrie Holmes and Robert Mitchell discuss the dislocation of residents in the neighborhood where Ms. Holmes has lived since the 70's. She wonders if she will be given enough money to move to some place as nice or nicer than where she currently lives.

There is a vacant lot across the street from the site of the new middle school. The problem is that the vacant lot is located in another school district. Mitchell does not understand why the two school districts can not work something out, thus saving the residents in the area from being forced to move.
