COMMEMORATING 518 YEARS OF INDIGENOUS RESISTANCE
Monday, October 11, 2010
We invite you to the annual sunrise gathering on AlcatrazIsland to commemorate 518 years (1492-2010) of Indigenous Peoplesʼ resistance to colonization of the Americas. Tobacco and prayers will be offered to the fire give thanks for those who came before us, for Mother Earth and for coming generations.
Everyone is welcome.
Featuring: IITC Board members Lenny Foster (Dineh) & Alcatraz Veteran, Faith Gemmill (Gwich'in, Alaska), Bill Means (Lakota), Radley Davis (Pit River); IITC Executive Director Andrea Carmen (Yaqui)
MC: Lakota Harden
This event will be broadcast live on 94.1 FM KPFA (and KPFA.org) from 6-8 AM. For more information contact IITC Information office at 415-641-4482 or email Morningstar [at] treatycouncil.org.
Meeting place: Fishermanʼs Wharf, Pier #33, San Francisco
Tickets: $11 adult, children under 5 free. Wheel chair accessible.
Boats depart Pier 33 at 5:15 and 5:45 AM. All return by 9 a.m.
