"I've Been Workin' on the Railroad"
We've been working now for ages.
And you know it's true.
Paying FICA on our wages.
But now comes something new....
The right wing comes along and tells us --
They want us to agree.
That THEY are going now to mess up ...
Our SOCIAL SECURITY.
Oh right wing you should know.
Your plans have got to go.
HANDS OFF -- SOCIAL SECURITY.
Raise the FICA tax. For all the rich fat cats.
But damn it, keep your hands off me!

They sure were ballsy trying to push their right wing rhetoric in San Francisco Bay Area of all places! While discussing and displaying graphs about Social Security at the same forum in San Jose the next day, they displayed the cash flow in and out without representing the accumulated reserves of a trillion dollars plus change that are owed to Social Security by the federal government which has borrowed them to run the country. It is as if the bonds that secure this fund did not exist. This is beyond misleading. They failed to show a chart representing the effects of raising the cap on wages subject to FICA which experts say will handily fix any shortfall. Not only that, they kept saying to the gray haired folks in the audience, "you don't have to worry about YOUR social security, since you were born before 1955." We were not there for ourselves but for those who come after us. Our social networks are too precious to leave to those who would privatize everything.
Please let me know how to contact you to find out about the next protest. I live in the East Bay. The government can give billions to big business and they need to share with the elderly too. WE NEED OUR INCREASE! Let's march for that.
Or California Alliance for Retired Americans. Both very active in the East Bay, and demonstrate every chance they get for this cause.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
