Who: One World Children's Fund.
We work to empower Americans who have come across innovative community-based, grassroots organizations while travelling in the developing world to support and fund raise for them. We shape our program around a partnership model, in which we make sure that the organization has sound leadership and management but we tie no 'conditionalities' to the funds that are raised. For example, we had a fundraiser a bit ago to build a fence for a girl's orphanage. People didn't understand why this organization so desperately wanted to build a fence, over say, feeding the girls. What we didn't understand was that the organization needed a fence to keep soldiers from entering the orphanage's compound. By listening to the needs of the community we are able to provide the practical necessities these organizations truly need.
In the past 10 years, OWCF has served over 100,000 kids, worked with nearly 40 community based organizations, and raised over 1.7 million dollars.
What: 10, $10 in '10 anniversary campaign. To celebrate our 10th year we’re asking for donations of $10 in the tenth month of the year!
Where: On our website http://www.oneworldchildrensfund.org/101010.html click on Donate Now!
When: Throughout the month of October.
Why: 100% of the donations made through OWCF go directly to the projects on the ground. $10 alone can buy two mosquito nets for a family in Central Africa or two months worth of education for a child in India. With your $10, organic gardens can be created, years of education can be provided, medication can be dispensed to alleviate HIV/AIDS or Malaria, and more! Let's create a Bay area network of individuals committed to children across the globe!
