Gotopless Day SF Aug 22nd 2pm - Justin Herman Plaza
Hello dear sisters and brothers of the Bay Area!
....I'm excited to announce that we're just a few days away from having our
third annual "GoTopless" Day
of protest in cities around the US -
and ... in San Francisco too!!
Woohoo!
:)
So I'm writing to you all
to personally invite you to join us in this fun afternoon
in the name of "Equal Rights"!
Sunday, Aug 22nd at 2pm - Justin Herman Plaza
(more details below)
..................
Here's more information (copied from our SF "Event" page on facebook)
WOMEN AND MEN, TOGETHER
for EQUAL RIGHTS!
In the USA, we're all supposed to have "equal rights" as decreed by the
Fourteenth Amendment of the US Constitution.
So if this is true - that men and women are supposed to be treated equally and
have the same rights - then why aren't women allowed to go topless when men are?
The truth is, women are still being arrested, fined and humiliated for daring
to go topless in public in many parts of the country!
If women are equal, then why this double standard?
To make a stand for women's constitutional rights to go topless like men,
GoTopless.org is putting on its third annual National "GoTopless" Day on Sunday
August 22nd, 2010, in cities across the USA!
"As long as men are allowed to be topless in public, women should have the same
constitutional rights. Or else, men should have to wear something to hide their
chests."
- Rael, spiritual leader and founder of GoTopless.org
During this protest, women and men will make a stand for equal rights! While
women are encouraged to go topless, men are asked to support the women by
covering their chests
with bikini tops or bras.
Yes, both women and men have an important part to play!
In San Francisco, on Sunday, August 22nd
at 2pm
GoTopless will be held in Justin Herman Plaza
where we'll be gathering to protest, celebrate and dance in toplessness to great
music provided by Aharon Bolsta and friends ( http://rhythmwheels.com/ )!
And feel free to bring sign-making supplies so we can create beautiful signs to
communicate our message!
Justin Herman Plaza is the grassy area at the foot of Market Street
[and directly across [from] the SF Ferry Building.]
If you must drive,
there are parking garages at Embarcadero Center, and at various locations south
of Market.
Justin Herman Plaza is easily accessible via the Embarcadero BART/MUNI station.
Get up to street level,
... [walk toward] the Ferry building,
and look for the topless women
:-)

A bit more about GoTopless...
Why in August? Because on August 26, 1920, following a 72 year struggle, the US
Constitution was [amended] to grant women the right to vote; And because [in]
1970, as an ongoing reminder of women's equality,
Congress declared August 26th "Women's Equality Day".
Already, a handful of states, including NY and Maine, now honor women's topfree
rights. Last week, the city council of Santa Fe, NM. turned down a city
ordinance to ban women's topfree rights
because council members feared they could later be
sued for violatig gender equality rights.
GoTopless protests will be held this August 22nd in
L.A,
Chicago,
SF,
Seattle,
Denver,
Miami,
Honolulu,
NYC and
Austin.

Logan
