Ending Mountaintop Removal: Appalachian Activists Coming to San Francisco
Climate Ground Zero is an ongoing campaign of non-violent civil resistance in southern West Virginia to end mountaintop removal. Since Feb 2009, over 150 people have been arrested (in WV alone!) confronting the irrevocable destruction of Appalachia & its accompanying toll on air, water, & lives of Appalachians.
Come learn about the campaign and how you can help!
WHO: Climate Ground Zero, an ongoing campaign of non-violent civil resistance in southern West Virginia to end mountaintop removal
WHAT: Climate Ground Zero comes to San Francisco with a colorful & informative presentation covering the destruction of Appalachia's rich land, culture, & history by mountaintop removal--among the most terrible techniques of fossil fuel extraction--and the popular resistance that will stop it. Find out how to help.
WHERE: Station 40, 3030B 16th St., San Francisco (16th & Mission; across the Street from 16th/Mission BART)
WHEN: 7-9pm -- Weds, Sept 1
WHY: Since Feb 2009, over 150 people have been arrested (in WV alone!) confronting the irrevocable destruction of Appalachia & its accompanying toll on air, water, & lives of Appalachians. Support of all kinds is needed, and greater familiarity with the destruction & injustice of MTR.
CONTACT: risingtidebayarea [at] gmail.com; 415-235-0596
COST: Donations of $5-10 accepted at door, no one turned away for lack of funds.
INFO: Check out climategroundzero.org for more resources & information about the campaign. Check out http://bayarea.risingtidenorthamerica.org/ to get involved locally in climate justice campaigns.
Sponsored by Rising Tide Bay Area (part of a global grassroots network of climate justice activists--seeking to confront the root causes of climate change/chaos with education & direct action).
