Rally to Save Social Security & Medicare For Future Generations
Wednesday, August 18, at 12:00 noon
Federal Building , 2nd and San Carlos, San Jose
Birthday cake will be served
Other visuals and participatory events: Cat food pyramid alongside birthday cake ("Will seniors be eating cake or cat food?" referring to the meat choice left for many senior citizens scraping by)
**Raging Grannies will lead a singalong**
Social Security is 75 years old this month. Medicare is 45 years old.
Yet these essential programs are in danger. The federal Bipartisan Deficit Commission is preparing recommendations targeting Social Security and Medicare. Some proposals being considered are raising the retirement age, reducing benefits, and privatizing Social Security.
We have a better idea: close corporate tax loopholes, tax Wall St. financial deals, and roll back tax cuts for the wealthy.
Sponsored by CARA (California Alliance of Retired Americans), California Nurses Association, South Bay Labor Council, Edge, FORUM –
