CUTS KILL; TAXES SAVE LIVES

If you are down with this message, if you believe in ArnieVille, if you admire our spirit, as so many have said, please do the following 3 things:

1) JOIN US ON AUGUST 18 IN SACRAMENTO! WE CAN'T DO THIS WITHOUT YOU! For more details, see #2.

2) DONATE TO CUIDO! Help us defray the enormous expenses we'll incur on 8/18 (rental of buses, etc). You can mail a check to DREDF (Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund), 2212 Sixth St, Berkeley, CA 94710. Make the check payable to DREDF, and write "ArnieVille" or "CUIDO" on the memo line. Or you can visit the DREDF website and use the PayPal button; be sure you specify, in a separate email to shenderson [at] dredf.org, that your donation is for CUIDO/ArnieVille.

3) ENCOURAGE EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO JOIN US ON 8/18!

About CUIDO

Recently, some 200+ folks visited our beautiful protest tent city in Berkeley, California. We called it ArnieVille.

They stopped by for an hour or 2, once or twice. Some were stalwarts who visited our traffic island in the middle of Adeline Street every day. Some attended one of our fabulous workshops, our film nights, our singing circle, our daily strategy meetings. Some cooked a mouth-watering hot meal for us or dropped by with an extra sleeping bag or tent. Some helped build our 8-foot-tall statue of our founding father, with his big fat stogie in one hand and his bloody raised axe in the other. Some folks helped us pie him! Others attended one of our press conferences, or our Country Joe McDonald benefit concert. Some couldn't make it down to ArnieVille in person yet visited our Facebook page.

ArnieVille sprang up in May for five days (the brainchild of Dan McMullan of the Disabled People Outside Project), returned on June 22, and folded its tents on July 22. It became the longest continuous disability protest in US history! We hope you're suitably impressed with that record, and we hope you'll stand (or sit!) with us as we prepare for the next phase of our battle to stop the cuts to In-Home-Supportive Services, Medi-Cal, Adult Day Health Care, mental health rehabilitation, CalWORKs, and other programs that we people with disabilities, seniors, caregivers, and poor people depend on.

If you've read any of the myriad newspaper articles that have been written about us, or heard/seen us interviewed on KPFA, Channels 2, 5, 7, 9, or Univision, you surely know by now that the proposed budget cuts would send tens of thousands of us to nursing homes, emergency rooms, homeless shelters, and mortuaries.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
