Nuevos Horizontes is a non-governmental organization located in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala’s second largest city. It is the only domestic violence shelter in the country that provides long-term housing for women and children, as well as psychological counseling, legal advice, job training, and healthcare.

The organization focuses on situations of domestic violence, poverty, abandonment, and neglect within the family environment. Most of the women NH serves are poor and illiterate, are housewives, or workers in the informal sector but still economically dependent on their male partner, with an average of 4 to 6 children. In addition to the shelter they also run a daycare (at a separate location) for single mothers and poor families.
