On July 29th, SB 1070 begins to be enforced. SB 1070 is an immigration law that fosters racial profiling by allowing police to inquire people on their legal status based on suspicion.
On March 29th people from across the country came to Arizona to march against this law. There was a general assemble the next day. At this general assemble, activist groups from across the country discussed a national strategy that could be taken ba...ck and implemented within our own communities to show support and solidarity for Arizona.
Latinos Unidos has teamed up with Students for a Democratic Society from Napa Valley College to organize a march.
The march will occur on the July28th to avoid conflict with Chef’s market. The march will show solidarity with Arizona and be an opportunity to bring those together that fear this law.
On July 29th the group Impact! From Petaluma will be holding a march as well. We will be organizing a car pool from Napa to Petaluma.
We want to invite and unite people from any community experiencing injustice. Whether we are Latinos, African-Americans, Women, LGBTQPI, youth, or individuals whose voices have been drowned out by the powers that be, we all share a common struggle. A common struggle against oppression, against injustice, and for freedom.
Groups that have endorsed the action:
Latinos Unidos
Students for a Democratic Society NVC
Students for a Democratic Society DVC
Napa County Green Party
Impact! Petaluma
United Farm Workers of America
Democrats of Napa Valley
Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Committee
Napa County Peace and Freedom Party
