The Hani Naser Band returns to perform at Berkeley's new Freight & Salvage venue. Showcasing a fresh hot stellar band, audience participants will delight in an evening of artfully fused improvisational world music! Multi-talented Hani Naser is a virtuoso hand drum (djembe/goblet drum) percussionist, master Oud player and vocalist. Hani is joined by his “cream of the crop” world roots band, adventurous musicians from around the world; multi-instrumentalist Craig Eastman (Hans Zimmer, Ray Charles, Jennifer Warnes), Cuban drummer and percussionist Walfredo Reyes, Jr., Marc Mann on keyboards, guitar & vocals, Richard Hardy on woodwinds, Victor Gonzalez (bass) and guitarist Tobi Hero. They mix their roots with contemporary rhythms and melodies, pushing each other past musical boundaries to a place that is rarely visited.
Hani was born in the hills above Jordan. His grandfather, Abu Farhan, his home's village poet regaled him with stories, songs and poetry. This rich influence helped trigger the beginning of Hani's musical journey and he began to learn to play the Oud and hand percussion instruments at a very young age.
A unique artist, Hani Naser's breadth of talent has earned him a place among a royal panoply of international musicians he's performed and recorded with including; Nickey Hopkins (Rolling Stones), Jackson Brown, Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder, Jim Keltner, David Lindley, Steve Miller, Los Lobos, The Violent Femmes, Hamza El Din, Kazu Matsui, Jennifer Warnes, David Broza, Paco De Lucia, Santana, Brian Ritchie,Leftover Salmon, Quick Silver Messenger Service, John Hyatt, Warren Zevon, Ruben Blades, Lou Reed, Blind Boys of Alabama, and many other incredible musicians.
Most importantly, Hani is committed to using his talent as a bridge to achieve peace, cultural respect, ecological awareness and unification of people through the power of music. Through his humanitarian efforts Hani has been blessed to participate in a concert in support of Landmine Survivors before the United Nations General Assembly in 2004 and a recent tour of the Middle East with Israeli born multi- platinum Israeli musician David Broza.
Hani Naser- “HNB is a unique combo of world, bluegrass, rock and blues. My band is the cream of the crop from four different parts of the world. The music is ethnic and focuses on International rhythm modal scales. We jell the sound, using jam and improvisation to get in a groove. We want to get down to the cellular level to create a true bond with our audiences.”
